David S. Elwood
David Elwood, 52, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Saturday, October 6th, 2018, at his home.
David Scott was born on July 12, 1966, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Dale and Judith (Frizzell) Koester. He lived in Omaha most of his life, until moving to Atlantic in 2005. David’s main focus was doing what he needed to do to keep his body strong as he battled the effects of CMT. He did this by staying active in various forms of exercise, including weight lifting and biking. He enjoyed fishing; the quarry being one of his favorite spots. David’s creative side and need to express himself through words led to many amazing writings and poems. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan, GO BIG RED! No matter how David was feeling or what he may be needing for himself he always put family and friends first. He was always there to help; including driving nephew, Nic to many doctor appointments. David, regardless of his age, was always his mom’s sweet little boy.
David will be deeply missed by his mother, Judith A. (Larry Winters) Frizzell; sisters, Lori (Daniel) Gandara and Patti Zimmerman; brothers, Brett (Deborah Wilson) Elwood and Jeff (Nikki) Elwood; nieces and nephews, Jesse, Grace and Samuel Gandara, Jenna Elwood, Cade and Kelly Elwood; aunt, Sandy (Leroy) Easter; cousins, Shelli, Steve and Stan Rossell; and many other extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Lyle and Betty Frizzell; adopted father, Dale Elwood; sister, Michaela “Kala” Elwood; nephew, Nic Zimmerman, and uncle, Keith Frizzell.
A prayer service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 12, 2018, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, followed by visitation with the family until 1:00 p.m. Following the service per David’s wishes cremation will take place.
David fought CMT his entire life; a disease related to Muscular Dystrophy. Even with the day to day struggles of CMT David battled with bravery each and every day; something his family was very proud of him for. Memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in David’s name.
Roland Funeral Service is caring for David’s family and his arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.rolandfuneralservice.com.
