Elvin Breach

Elvin Breach, 85, of Atlantic, Iowa, died August 24, 2023, at Cass County Memorial Hospital with family by his side.

Elvin Dwayne Breach was born to Everett and Eva (Kerchevall) Breach on October 3, 1937, on a farm in rural Pottawattamie County, Iowa.  He grew up in the Redfield and Atlantic areas, graduating from Atlantic High School in 1956.  While in school, Elvin was employed at Zurfluh Greenhouse in Atlantic.  He was married to Shirley (Gilliam) on February 16, 1957, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.  To this union two sons were born.

After marriage he worked as a farm hand on several farms and for Vernon and Maxine Wohlenhaus for over 48 years.  After he retired from farming, which was his pride and joy, Elvin and Shirley moved to Atlantic.  Shortly thereafter he became Manager of Cherry Hill Apartments in Atlantic and attended Grace Point Church of Atlantic.

Elvin loved to square dance, bowl, play card games and make sure all of his tenants were cared for.  He was always outgoing and especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  “By cracky!” he will be dearly missed.

Elvin is survived by his sons, Randy (Diane) Breach of Atlantic, IA and Roger (Denise) Breach of Oakland, IA; grandsons, Scott (Michelle) Breach of Urbandale, IA and Dave Breach of Bridgewater, IA; two great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; sisters, Evelyn Wheatley of Clive, IA and Evona Billings of Council Bluffs, IA; sisters-in-law, Janet Breach of Norfolk, NE, Doris Thomas of West Des Moines, IA, and Carolyn Miller of Casey, IA.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, parents, Everett and Eva, and brother, Everett Breach.  

A Memorial Visitation with Family Present will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August, 30th, 2023, at Roland Funeral Service in Atlantic.  Private family burial will be at a later date in the Atlantic Cemetery.         

Memorials may be made to the family for later designation.
