Edmund “Ed” Ray Angell, 85, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away, April 10, 2023, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa after a short illness.
Edmund was born on February 27, 1938, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Henry and Alice (Law) Angell. He graduated in 1956 from Barnum High, excelling in basketball and baseball during those years.
While in high school, Ed got his first job at the Barnum Locker where he learned to cut meat. Shortly after graduation he started with Fareway Grocery Store in Fort Dodge. He advanced to become the meat department manager in Fort Dodge and Iowa Falls.
He was united in marriage to Mary Jo Connors on February 2, 1957. Five children were born to this union, Michael, James, Steven, Sharadee and Catherine.
The family moved to Creston as Ed was transferred to the Fareway store in Creston. Later he accepted a position with State Farm Insurance in Atlantic and Fontanelle where he was an agent for nearly 42 years.
Ed was involved in several civic organizations: Jaycees, Toastmasters, the Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus. He was the District Governor for the Lions Club and loved to work the Lions Club car show. He was a member of the SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic.
He is survived by his sons, James Angell and his wife, Barbara and Steven Angell; daughter, Catherine Juelsgaard; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Linda Angell.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Alice Angell; wife, Mary Angell; son, Michael Angell; daughter, Sharadee Angell; and brothers, Phil Angell and Merle (Bea) Angell.
Ed will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A Rosary service will be held at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 12th at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, followed by visitation with the family present from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 13th at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic. Burial will be held at the SS Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery.
Memorial may be directed to the family for later designation to the Iowa Heart Association and St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
