FLORENCE "VIRGINIA&" (McCRORY) EBLEN F. Virginia (McCrory) Eblen, age 88, of Atlantic, Iowa passed away at Select Specialty Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska on Sunday, January 4, 2009. Virginia, the daughter of Henry Samuel McCrory and Elsie L. McVey McCrory, was born April 20, 1920 at the home of her parents north of Atlantic, Iowa. She attended grade school at Pymosa #3 and graduated from the Atlantic High School in 1938. Her marriage to Darrell Wayne Eblen took place on June 20, 1946 at the home of her parents. The couple raised two children, Sharon and Douglas. Virginia was a home-maker, a school teacher, worked in a defense plant, in California during World War II and as a seamstress for Howard"s Clothing Store in Atlantic. She was baptized in the Buck Creek Methodist Church and later became a member of the Atlantic First United Methodist Church. She was a Sunday school teacher, a Brownie Scout leader, a member of the Eldeen 4H Club, and was on the Heritage House Guild. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and always looked forward to their coming with hugs and kisses. Surviving are her daughter Sharon Elaine and her husband Walt Ambrose Jr.; their children, Jennifer and her husband Andrew Hahn; Ben and his wife Jenny, their children Sabien, Samantha, Allison and Alex; her son Douglas Darrell Eblen and his wife Elizabeth Ann and their children Andrew, Aaron and Avi and step-children Justin, Joel and Jace Durcholz; sister-in-law Gladys McCrory of Atlantic, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Reeve Norton of Princeton, New Jersey and Roy DeVore of Cumberland, Iowa; a number of nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Darrell in 1981; her son Gregory Wayne in 1946; a sister Mary and husband Harold Joyce; sister Esther and husband Charles Stowe; her brother George McCrory; her sister Ruth McCrory Norton and sister-in-law Phyllis DeVore.Funeral InformationThere will be open visitation and Virginia"s family will meet with friends on Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. Pastor Gary DeGeest will officiate at her funeral service to be held on Thursday at 10:30 A.M. at First United Methodist Church in Atlantic. The committal service will follow in the Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic. Roland Funeral Service is caring for Virginia"s family and the arrangements.
