Obituary for Thomas W. Eblen

THOMAS W. EBLEN Tom Eblen, 86, long time resident of Atlantic, passed away at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic on Thursday, May 20, 2010. Tom was born the son of Imo Smith Eblen and Frank Eblen in Cumberland, Iowa in 1923. He graduated with the Cumberland High School Class of 1941. He served in the Navy SeaBees, the Construction Battalion of the United States Navy, for two and one-half years in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He married Beulah Ann Neiens in 1947. They had two daughters, Trudy Eblen Livengood and Kathy Sayers. He began flying airplanes as a young man; however, his avocation was moving dirt. He worked on the Alcan Highway and then continued construction work with his dad. Also, he had a life long interest in raising horses. For fifty years, he was both a Shriner and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was also a long time member of the Rotary Club. His survivors include his wife Beulah; two daughters, Trudy and her husband Steven Livengood of Atlantic and Kathy Sayers of Berkeley, California; granddaughter Andrea and husband Kyle Rosenthal of San Francisco, California; and great-granddaughter Bianca Lauren Rosenthal. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother and an infant daughter, brother Frank Eblen, and sister Ramona Krug. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, May 24 with Father Dan Siepker officiating.
