Obituary for Evelyn I. Duskin

Evelyn Duskin, 95, of Atlantic, passed away Friday, May 12, 2017, at the Community Care Center in Stuart.

Evelyn Irene was born on January 13, 1922, in Pottawattamie County, Iowa, the daughter of Bryan and Christine (Schneider) Williams. She graduated from Lewis High School in 1940.

On June 22, 1946, she married Cecil " Bing" Duskin in Atlantic, Iowa, and four children were born to this union Gary, Roger, Sandra, and Diana. The couple farmed for several years in the Lewis and Anita areas, and then moved into Anita where Evelyn worked at the Anita Locker until her retirement. They were members of a bowling league in Adair, a square dance club and also enjoyed camping and fishing together. Evelyn and Cecil wintered in Texas for 10 years, and while there, enjoyed lots of square dancing. On July 4, 1994, following Cecil's death, she moved to 800 Chestnut where she lived until a few months ago.

Evelyn loved to plastic canvas and needlepoint and when Lawrence Welk came on, it was time to tune in. It wasn't uncommon to see her gathered around the table for a game of Skip-Bo or UNO, and she played countless games of solitaire. Loving and caring for her family was most important to her, and she was always checking in on them to see how they were doing. As much as she thought of her children and grandchildren, her great grandkids brought a whole new level of adoration. Evelyn loved engaging in conversation with not only family, but her many friends.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Bruce) Schmeling of Casey; daughter-in-law, Karen Duskin of Johnston; grandchildren, Julia Schmeling of Casey, Jennifer (John) King of Casey, Jolene (Ben) Ketchum of Casey, Craig Duskin of St. Paul MN, and Scott (Jessie) Duskin of Des Moines; great-grandchildren, Marie Ketchum, Katelynn Ketchum, Parker King, Sage Duskin, Amelia Duskin and Calum Duskin; sisters-in-law, Virginia Williams, Vivian Williams, and Viola McCullough; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cecil "Bing" Duskin in 1994; sons, Gary Duskin in 2005 and Roger Duskin in 2011; daughter, Diana Duskin in 1952; and brothers, Glenn Williams and Vernon Williams.

Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, May 15, 2017, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, with Pastor David Anderson of the Lewis Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
