LESTER D. DUEDE
Lester Duede, 81, a long time resident of Cumberland, Iowa, passed away at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa on Thursday, November 22, 2012.
Lester Dean Duede was born September 4, 1931, the son of Otto and Hazel (Dammonn) Duede, on the family farm near Gray, Iowa. He attended Audubon High School and went on to work at testing dairy cattle. Lester was married to Sandra Jane Gross in Atlantic, Iowa on September 10, 1963. He and his wife were members of the Cumberland United Methodist Church in Cumberland.
Lester soon began working for Schwans in 1951, staying with the company for the next twenty plus years. Following a short term in New York, they returned to Iowa where they settled in Cumberland. He started his own business, with a Charles Chips franchise, which he sold after twenty years of service. Following retirement, he kept active working at several jobs until after the passing of his wife in April of this year.
His family will remember the love that he had of spending time with horses and the joy that he expressed while spending time in Wyoming with his son, Neil, daughter-in-law, Jessica and the grandchildren. He left a legacy in that he always managed to remain pleasant and persevering while, regardless of situations, kept a good mood.
He is survived by his six children: sons, Neil, David and Dennis and daughters, Joan, Patricia and Peggy; brothers, Carl, Russell and Mark; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and sisters, Joan and Florence.
Lester was preceded in passing by his wife Sandy and his parents.
