Duane L. Steffens, 79, of Atlantic, Iowa, and formerly of Wiota, died Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Duane was born on July 2, 1944, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of George Albert and Alberta Louise (Vanderwater) Steffens, and attended school at C&M.
He was united in marriage to Sharon Kay Moore on September 19, 1965, at the Methodist Church in Cumberland, Iowa. Duane felt most at home living life on the farm and raising his family there.
Duane enjoyed saddle club and 4-H. He was an active member of the First Lutheran Church, south of Wiota. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and family; especially at their sporting events. In his spare time, he loved gardening, landscaping, birdwatching and feeding his goldfish. When he wasn’t doing that, he looked forward to sitting in the garage with family and friends, waving at every passing car.
Duane loved and was deeply loved by all those around him. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Sharon Steffens; his children, Todd (Julie) Steffens, Stacy Socha-Steffens, Denny Steffens and Tracy (Jim) Christiansen; grandchildren, Heather (Chris), Jacob, Dylan, Kelsey (Daniel) Courtney, Kayla, Laurel (Dayton), Hailey and Lacy; great-grandchildren, Laney, Naomi, Ocean, Grayson and Koa; sister, Sandy (Mike) Eversole; four nephews; and one niece.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Alberta (Vanderwater) Steffens; parents-in-law, Clyde and Laverne (Paul) Moore; brother-in-law, Larry Moore; and special great-granddaughter, Makenzie Steffens
A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 31st at the First Lutheran Church, south of Wiota, with Pastor Mike Bodkins officiating. Burial will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family.
