Douglas Bissell

Douglas Bissell, 59, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2023, at Cass County Memorial Hospital.

Douglas Allen Bissell was born June 9, 1964, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Gary and Karen (McKee) Bissell, joining his sister, Tammy.  Doug grew up in the Atlantic, Wiota, and Anita area, and was involved in football, wrestling and track.  He graduated from Anita High School in 1982.  After graduation, Doug moved to Austin, Texas, where he started his career in construction as a steel erector, construction superintendent and in carpentry.

Doug married Pamela Lohoff on February 24, 1990, in Anita, Iowa.  They had two children, a daughter, Courtney and a son, Taylor.  They made their home in Anita for several years before moving to Omaha, Nebraska.  They enjoyed golfing, watching hockey and traveling to where Doug was working.  One of their favorite trips was to Michigan and Canada.  Doug was always excited to show them what projects he was working on.  

Doug is survived by his daughter, Courtney (Tomy) Johnson; son, Taylor (Jamie) Bissell; two grandchildren; parents, Gary and Karen Bissell; sister, Tammy (Denny) Krummel; nephew, Derrek (Lauren) Krummel; niece, Marissa Krummel; two great-nephews; a great-niece; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Virgil and Maudie Bissell, Rex and Iada McKee and Helen Erickson and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Family is hosting a Celebration of Life Memorial Service and Visitation from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., Saturday, December 16, 2023, at the Adair Community Center, 308 Stuart Street, Adair, Iowa.  The service will begin with Pastor Don McLean of GracePoint Church in Atlantic, followed by a time for sharing of memories.  No luncheon will be served.

All memorials should be directed to Courtney Johnson and Taylor Bissell to help with final expenses.
