Dorothy Dimig

Dorothy Dimig, 99, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Monday, May 5, 2025, at Heritage House in Atlantic.

Dorothy Isobel Skow was born on December 7, 1925, in Marne, Iowa, at the home of her parents Bendix and Mable Maymie (Mathies) Skow. She attended Marne Public Schools for 10 years and graduated from Atlantic High School in 1943. She taught at rural schools Brighton #9 and Brighton #2 for a year and a half and 3rd, 4th and 5th grade at Marne Public for four years.

On September 6, 1949, she was united in marriage to Joseph B. Dimig at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic, Iowa. They resided on a farm in Grove Township all their married lives and were involved in the purebred Duroc swine business until Joe retired in 1995. They continued to live in their home, which by his retirement was included in the Atlantic city limits.

Dorothy was a full-time homemaker, raising their four children and assisting in the business by doing the bookwork, including the registration of the thousands of purebred hogs. She had large gardens and preserved and froze much of her harvest. She willingly served on church and civic organizations, accepting leadership of office when asked. She was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. Dorothy loved ballroom dancing, reading, playing cards— especially bridge, and the friends she made in those activities.
