Dorland Schuler, 94, of Atlantic, formerly of rural Griswold, died Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at Heritage House in Atlantic.
Dorland was born to Harold and Evelyn (Cocklin) Schuler on June 6, 1928, south of Lyman, Cass County, Iowa. He graduated from Atlantic High School in 1945, being 16 years old; his favorite classes in school being shop, welding, lathe, and acetylene torch. One of his school projects was to build a 24’ long elevator for his Dad and after high school, Dorland built a motor scooter. He and his younger brother, Duane had many happy hours riding around the country side, with Pooch the family dog, between them.
In 1948, Dorland rented wheat ground from Dr. Basil Wier and from this he bought his first tractor for $1,975.00.
In 1955, Dorland married Verna Bishop from Red Oak and the couple had four children, Reggie, Rhonda, Rodney and Roger. Dorland and Verna started farming as soon as they were married and in the early 1960’s Dorland built a feed wagon with a new concept in design. Dorland soon got the feeling that the Lord wanted this wagon built with Jesus being the Senior Partner.
With Verna by his side, they had a farm sale on November 18, 1964, and started Schuler Manufacturing Company. Through the years the business grew and was blessed by the Lord at the head and helm of the company.
As they got older, they enjoyed summer vacations in Canada fishing with family and friends. In the winter they would spend time in Arizona. They also traveled overseas.
Dorland had numerous Bibles and always marked special passages; he loved studying Bible Prophecy.
Surviving Dorland are his wife, Verna of Atlantic; his children, Reggie (Jean) Schuler of Griswold, Rhonda (Steve) Hayward of Joplin, MO, Michelle (daughter-in-law, Rod’s wife) of Atlantic and Roger (Janelle) Schuler of Canton, OH; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his son, Rodney.
Visitation with the family present will be held from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., Sunday, November 6th at the First Church of Christ in Atlantic.

Following a luncheon at the church burial will take place at the Noble Center Cemetery, south of Lyman. The service will be recorded and will be posted to the funeral home website by noon on Tuesday.
