Rev. Reinhold G. Dohrmann, age 89, of Atlantic, passed away Monday, April 12, 2004, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, IA. He lived most recently at the Good Samaritan Center in Fontanelle. Pastor Dohrmann was born July 21, 1914, in Franklin County, IA, to Edward L. and Helena nee Gade Dohrmann. He was baptized September 6, 1914, at Zion Lutheran Church, Beed"s Lake, IA, and confirmed there on April 27, 1927. After attending rural schools, including two years of parochial school at Zion, he left for Concordia Academy, St. Paul, MN, at the age of thirteen. Six years later, in 1933, he completed Concordia Junior College in St. Paul and enrolled at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. There he spent four more years training for the ministry, graduating in 1938 after a vicarage year at Chickasaw Lutheran in Saude, IA. Pastor Dohrmann"s first ministry, at Zion Lutheran, Chamberlain, SD, and Immanuel Lutheran, Ola, SD, coincided with his marriage to Helen Witte, February 1, 1939. Both ministry and marriage were fruitful, and each lasted more than sixty years. Pastor Dohrmann served in South Dakota from 1938 to 1943, at Zion Lutheran, Atlantic, from 1943 to 1960, and at Mt. Olive Lutheran, Des Moines, from 1960-1979. In the late sixties, while in Des Moines, he helped to establish Mt. Olive Lutheran School, a K-8 facility. His retirement years were spent in Atlantic, where he served until 1997 as an assistant; in the early eighties he also helped to build a new congregation, Our Savior Lutheran, in Walnut. His service to the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod was long and varied: in the 1940s, he edited the South Dakota Lutheran News and served as Secretary of the South Dakota District. In Iowa he was Circuit Counselor for the Des Moines District and a member of the Iowa District West Walther League Board. He chaired the IDW Missions Department, Evangelism and Social Ministry Committees, and the Commission on Adjudication. He also served on the Endowment and Organ Committees at Zion Lutheran, Atlantic. He is survived by four children: Karen Johnson of Omaha, NE, David Dohrmann and wife Mary of Corvallis, OR, Dr. Kathryn Dohrmann and husband Edward Packel of Lake Forest, IL, and Mark Dohrmann and wife Jill of Fountain Hills, AZ. His seven grandchildren include Rebecca Tanner and husband Dennis of Fontanelle, IA, Shawn Holtgrewe and husband Jason of Newell, IA, Eric Johnson of Omaha, NE, John Dohrmann and wife Krystin of San Francisco, CA, Adrian Packel of Swarthmore, PA and Colin and Brady Dohrmann of Phoenix, AZ.
