Obituary for J.J. Dixon
Jay Dixon, 85, a longtime Atlantic resident, died at his home in Atlantic, Iowa on Saturday, December 22, 2007.Jay was born the son of Virgil and Lou (Jones) Dixon, on July 31, 1922, in Montpelier, Ohio. He grew up in Centralia and Columbia, Missouri graduating from Hickman High School in Columbia. He went on to the University of Missouri where he graduated with a BS in Agriculture. He enlisted in the Army and was a 1st Lieutenant during WWII while he served in France and Germany. Jay was married to Natalia "Tollie" Becker in Columbia, Missouri on March 20, 1944.The couple was blessed with two daughters. Jay was well known as a caring and friendly banker at 1st Whitney Bank in Atlantic where he worked for 13 years until his retirement in 1987. He was active in Atlantic"s Rotary Club and the V.F.W. in Fayette, MO.Jay's family will remember him as a loving and generous father and grandfather.He is survived by his daughters, Donna Frede and her husband Jim of Vinton, IA and Kathy Dixon of Kinston Springs, TN; two grandchildren, Ryan Frede and his wife Stacy of Iowa City, IA and Carrie Frede of Elon, NC; four great grandchildren, Hayden, Dylan, Avery and Noah; one sister, Betty Beer of Dallas, TX; and a sister and brother-in-law, Ruthanna and Lloyd Turner of Columbia, MO.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Tollie and his brother Verdell.Jay's family will meet with friends for a visitation at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa on Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. His funeral service will be held at Oliver Funeral Home in Centralia, MO on Thursday at 2:00 P.M., preceded by a visitation, with family receiving relatives and friends from 1:00 until the 2:00 o'clock service. Pastor Bruce Williamson of New Hope Church in Calwood, MO will officiate. The committal will be in the Centralia City Cemetery in Centralia, Missouri.A memorial is being established in Jay"s name at Cass County Memorial Hospital.
