Vincent W. Dimig
Vincent Dimig, 93, a longtime Atlantic resident and pharmacist passed away Saturday, January 31, 2004, at the Heritage House in Atlantic. Vincent was the son of George and Lena (Strittmatter) Dimig born on August 9, 1910 on a farm northwest of Atlantic. He and his parents moved to a farm in York, Nebraska in 1913. Vince graduated from York High School in 1928 and then attended York Junior College for a year. He then enrolled in Creighton University School of Pharmacy in 1929 and graduated in 1933. During the next four years, he worked at various pharmacies in York, Alliance, Chadron and Omaha, Nebraska. In 1937, he moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa and started working for Connolly Drug Company and was there for the next 9 years. On February 13, 1939, he married Margaret McMahon at St. Joseph"s Catholic Church in Wiota, Iowa. Vince purchased Lee Drug Company in Atlantic from Arthur Lee on August 13, 1946 and renamed the business Dimig Drug Company. He continued operating the pharmacy until July of 1970 when he retired and sold the business to Allen Fann. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of Atlantic Elks Lodge #445. In 1984, Vince received recognition from the states of Iowa and Nebraska for over 50 years of service as a registered pharmacist. In February 1996, he moved to the health center at Heritage House where he resided until his death. He is survived by his son Bill of Atlantic and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Vince was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Margaret; and by two sisters, Theresa (who died in infancy) and Frances Dowd and husband Frank.Funeral Information
