Dennis D. Anderson, 75, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Atlantic Specialty Care.
Dennis Duane was born on August 14, 1950, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Reed Cantwell and Evangeline Marie (Feilinger) Anderson. He grew up in Atlantic and had to be careful with his activities due to a childhood illness. Dennis graduated from Atlantic High School in the Class of 1968.
On March 30, 1969, he was united in marriage to Kaydee Jean Ward at the Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple enjoyed skating and camping. They were blessed with one daughter, Georgenia before Kaydee’s untimely death.
Dennis later married Jackie Moore on May 12, 1973, In Anita, Iowa and they were blessed with two children, John and JoLynne. Following their divorce, he married Peggy Anderson on June 29, 1990 and were married until her death on May 4, 2023.
He worked for Henningsen Construction, Pyramid Builders, ABILD, the DNR in the Lewis office, and also kept busy working maintenance for an apartment complex, driving a tow truck and helping out an auctioneer. He was a jack of all trades!
Dennis enjoyed anything that took him outdoors including fishing, camping and deer hunting. His favorite fishing spots included Cold Springs State Park in Lewis and local farm ponds. If he was watching TV you can bet it was a Western. Oh, the stories that could be told, but let’s just say he was a “little” stubborn to say the least.
Dennis is survived by daughter, Georgenia Chamberlin; daughter, JoLynne Gill; son, John Anderson; his step-children; grandchildren, Denise, John, Sean, Christi, Mary, Brandi, Mollie and Talon; many great-grandchildren; sister, Charlotte (Bob) Bancroft; brother, David Anderson; sister-in-law, Carol Anderson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Reed and Evangeline Anderson; wives, Kaydee, Jackie and Peggy; granddaughter, Myra Jo Gill; brother, Dan Anderson; brother-in-law, Abby Dean Ward; and nephew, Donald Albert Ward, Jr.
A Celebration of Life gathering and burial at Brighton Township Cemetery in Marne will be held at a later date.
Roland Funeral Service is caring for Dennis' family and his arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.rolandfuneralservice.com.
"Daddy's Hands" - by Holly Dunn
I remember daddy's hands folded silently in prayer
And reachin' out to hold me, when I had a nightmare
You could read quite a story in the callous' and lines
Years of work and worry had left their mark behind
I remember daddy's hands how they held my mama tight
And patted my back for something done right
There are things that I'd forgotten that I loved about the man
But I'll always remember the love in daddy's hands
Daddy's hands were soft and kind when I was cryin'
Daddy's hands were hard as steel when I'd done wrong
Daddy's hands weren't always gentle but I've come to understand
There was always love in daddy's hands
I remember daddy's hands workin' 'til they bled
Sacrificed unselfishly just to keep us all fed
If I could do things over, I'd live my life again
And never take for granted the love in daddy's hands
Daddy's hands were soft and kind when I was cryin'
Daddy's hands were hard as steel when I'd done wrong
Daddy's hands weren't always gentle but I've come to understand
There was always love in daddy's hands
Daddy's hands were soft and kind when I was cryin'
Daddy's hands were hard as steel when I'd done wrong
Daddy's hands weren't always gentle but I've come to understand
There was always love in daddy's hands
