Debbie Pope

Debbie Pope, 58, of Lewis, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.

Debra Ann was born on August 11, 1964, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Judy (Davis) Masker.  Debbie grew up on a farm outside of Anita, Iowa with her two brothers, Douglas and Dwayne, and as child she treasured the time she spent visiting with her Grandma Davis.  At the age of five she was named “Little Miss Anita.”  Debbie graduated from Anita High School in 1982 and then attended The American Institute of Business (AIB) where she earned her degree in secretarial work.  She used those skills while working for Ed Anstey, Attorney at Law in Atlantic, Iowa and Circus Circus Hotel and Casino in Reno, Nevada. While working for Camblin’s, Debbie met Jeff Pope and the couple married on August 24, 2002, in Lewis.  For the last 10 years, she worked at Cass Incorporated, currently Trivium Life Services, caring for individuals with disabilities, a perfect fit for her.  She LOVED to help people, and had a heart for those in need, often performing acts of kindness many were not aware of.

Debbie and Jeff made Lewis home following their marriage in 2002.  She dreamed of building a home for her and her family to make memories in for many years, and that she did!  While in Lewis, Debbie helped Jeff with numerous volunteer positions, but primarily for the Lewis Volunteer Fire Department, which included helping sell bricks for the Lewis Fire Department Station kitchen and meeting rooms and stepping in to help at various tasks and events that are too numerous to list.  Debbie took a great amount of pride in doing what she could to make Lewis a better place to live.

She was also an avid gardener, quilter, baker, cook and eventually grew to look forward to motorcycle rides. Ultimately, what brought her the greatest joy was the love she poured into spending time with Jeff, Jessica and her family…Home Is Where Her Heart Was!

Debbie is survived by her husband, Jeff Pope; daughter, Jessica Masker; mother, Judy Masker; brothers, Douglas Masker and Dwayne (Denise) Masker; mother-in-law, Betty Pope; brother-in-law, Tim (Koleene) Pope; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by father, Ed Masker; father-in-law, Tom Pope; and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
