Daryle Moeller

Daryle Dean Moeller, 77, of Elk Horn, IA, died Sunday, May 19, 2024, in Omaha, Nebraska.

Daryle was born on October 8, 1946, to Walter and Lenora (Juelsgaard) Moeller in Atlantic, Iowa.  He grew up as the only child on the farm learning the value of a full day’s work from his Dad, a trait he would teach his son and carry to his final days.  He attended Country School in northwest Cass County and attended Elk Horn/Kimballton High School, graduating in 1964.  When he wasn’t farming, he would grow to enjoy spending time “scooping the loop” in Atlantic and “Superville Cruising” between Kimballton and Elk Horn in his ’64 Ford.  After high school Daryle joined the Highway Commission prior to enlisting in the Army Reserve and eventually National Guard.  He was well known for his contributions to the Marne Slow Pitch Softball league that dominated the area for many years despite their age.

While in high school, Daryle met Connie Rasmussen who became his high school sweetheart.  On March 26, 1966, he married Connie and together they would have two children, Devin and Darcey, and carry on their family farming business, including the century farms near Marne.  They eventually built a new homeplace in 1976 and moved to Elk Horn in 2001 when he “retired”.  After retirement, he worked almost as hard as he did when he started farming, but learned to take time to attend family holiday events, birthday parties and hang out with his sweetheart granddaughter, Ashley and spend valuable time with his grandson, Austin, who he was always so proud that he will carry on the 5th generation of their family farm.

In the winter months, Daryle would travel with his wife around the U.S., but especially enjoyed their annual trips to Florida to watch the Daytona 500 for a number of decades.  His love for speedy cars in his younger days only grew as he attended countless dirt races throughout the U.S. to watch his favorite drivers compete.  He was also known to be light on his feet while attending many local dances after having a sip or two.  Daryle served on the Marne Elk Horn Telephone Company board for 19 years.   He also was a member of the Elk Horn American Legion Post 322.

Daryle will be remembered for his love and dedication to farming, John Deere green, his friendly demeanor, sense of humor, and deep love and devotion for his family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Daryle is survived by his son, Devin (Stacey Andersen) Moeller of Marne; daughter, Darcey Hart of Calvin, OK; grandchildren, Ashley (Patrick) DeLany of Mt. Vernon, IA, Austin (Jess Andersen) Moeller and two children of Elk Horn, IA, Carson Hart of Chickasha, OK, Terra Hart of Calvin, OK; great-grandchildren, Jakob, Corbin, Declan and Natalie; close friends of the family, Trevor Elwood, Britany (Jared) Schoning and their four children and many beloved friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Lenora, and wife Connie (Rasmussen).
