Lawrence Glen Darrow
Lawrence Glen Darrow, 76, of Anita, passed away at his home Sunday evening, August 12, 2001. The son of Clair William and Harriet Drake Darrow, Larry was born September 19, 1924, in Omaha, Nebraska and was reared in Atlantic graduating from the Atlantic High School in 1942. He married Lola Jensen April 9, 1943 in Bethany, Missouri. He entered the U.S. Army in 1943 and was discharged in 1945 following World War II. He returned to Atlantic where he sold Moorman feed for a short while. He then spent a year in Griswold as an upholster. He entered the Postal Service in 1952 and was a mail carrier for 26 years, starting in Atlantic, Iowa then transferring to Boulder, Colorado in 1962 and Omaha, Nebraska in 1963, retiring in 1978 in Omaha, Nebraska. in 1979 they lived in Elk Horn, Iowa before moving to Safford, Arizona in 1984, where he attended Eastern Arizona State College in Thatcher, Arizona and took lapidary and jewelry making. His main interest was taking part in prison ministry in Safford. Following their stay in Safford, Arizona, they moved to Neosho, Missouri in 1990, Atlantic in 1991 and currently resided in Anita since 1992. Larry was a member of the First Church of Christ, Anita VFW and American Legion.Surviving are his wife, Lola, of Anita; two daughters, Sharon Sanny and her husband, Virgil, of Bedford, Kathy Schmidt and her husband, John, of Omaha; one son David Darrow in his wife, Mary, of Omaha; 12 grandchildren, Monica Brandt and her husband, Tony, of Indianola, Iowa, Deanne Langmaid and her husband, Randy, of Yarmouth, Maine, Carmen Revels and her husband, Kelly, of Selma, North Carolina, Derek Sanny and his special friend, Vicki Rabe, of Atlantic, Kaleb Sanny, of Goodman, Missouri, Alisha Sanny of Bedford, Iowa, Brian Schmitt and his wife, Julie, of Omaha, Nebraska, Mick Schmitt of La Vista, Nebraska, Elizabeth Peters and her husband, Scott, of Treynor, Iowa, Laurie Ann Darrow of Omaha, Nebraska, Becky Darrow, of Seattle, Washington and Jennifer Darrow of Omaha, Nebraska; 20 great grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Ackerman and her husband, Rollie, of Atlantic, Jeanne Huish of Thatcher, Arizona; sisters in-law, Dorothy Curtis Ayers of Atlantic and Pauline Jensen of Denver, Colorado; several nieces and nephews and many friends.He was preceded in death by his parents, Clair and Harriet Darrow; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Francis and Emanuel Jensen; grandson, Todd Schmitt; sister, Mildred, at age 5; brothers-in-law, Lawrence Jensen, Bob Curtis, Charlie Huish, Dr. Frank Pop, Dr. Clive Ayers; sister-in-law, Myrtle Pop.Roland Funeral Service -- Atlantic, IowaFuneral InformationServices for Larry were held Wednesday, August 15, 2001, at 2:00PM at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa with Dale Kesterson of the First Church o Christ in Atlantic and Tony Brandt of the Indianola Church of Christ officiating.Interment was in the Atlantic Cemetery, Atlantic, Iowa.
