Danny Fletcher

Danny Fletcher, 78, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Sunday, May 28, 2023, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.

Danny Gene Fletcher was born July 25, 1944, in Massena, Iowa, the son of Howard Taft and Pearl Mildred (Maas) Fletcher.  He was one of 11 children.  Danny graduated from Massena High School in 1962.  On June 18, 1963, he was united in marriage to Shelia M. Bissell at Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Massena, Iowa.

Danny worked in road construction until going to work at Sidles Company in Atlantic in 1963.  He started the Big A Auto Parts store with two other partners, later buying them out to become sole owner.  Danny and Shelia moved to Missouri in 1998 and lived there for 17 years before returning to Atlantic. 

Danny was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Griswold, the Knights of Columbus and a 51-year member of Atlantic Elks Lodge.  He served on the Atlantic Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. 

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and country dancing. Danny liked to help his family and friends in remodeling projects in addition to doing a lot of his own homes thru the years.  Danny and Shelia spent winters in Texas enjoying the sunshine.

Danny is survived by his wife, Shelia Fletcher of Atlantic; sons, Michael Fletcher of Anita and Stephen (Sheri) Fletcher of Atlantic; grandchildren, Travis (Lexington) Fletcher of Griswold, Curtis (Kadi) Fletcher of Lincoln, NE and Brooke (Frederik) Lundsgaard of Manchester, England; great-granddaughters, Freja Lundsgaard, Kaia Fletcher and Sadie Fletcher; sisters, Annette Porter of Springfield, MO, Shirley (Ken) Fletcher of Onalaska, WI, Leola Glass of Houston, TX and Nancy Erickson of Massena; brothers, Richard (Linda) Fletcher of Valparaiso, NE and Robert (Penny) Fletcher of Warrenton, MO; sisters-in-law, Patricia (Jim Olsen) Reyes of Missouri Valley and Kathy (Frank) Carns of Greenfield; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his son, Joshua Fletcher; parents, Howard and Pearl Fletcher, parents-in-law, Earl and Irene Bissell; brothers and sister-in-law, Junior Fletcher, Jack Fletcher and Donnie (Carol) Fletcher; sister, Sharon Warrier; and brothers-in-law, Ivan Porter, Ted Glass and Dale Erickson.

Visitation with the family present will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 2^nd at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 3^rd at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Griswold.  Burial will be in the Massena Cemetery, north of Massena, Iowa.

Memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later date.
