Marlene Cummins

Marlene Ann Cummins, age 70, from Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away December 3, 2005, at Bergen Mercy Hospital in Omaha, NE.Marlene was born September 4, 1935 to Gerald and Mabel (Nelsen) Akers inthe Brayton area. She grew up in the Brayton and Atlantic, Iowa areas and graduated from the Atlantic High School in 1953. After graduation, she began working for the telephone company in Atlantic, "Ma Bell", as she referred to it. She transferred and moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa where she worked in the Council Bluffs and Omaha telephone offices. Marlene retired from "Ma Bell" after 39 years of service. On December 4, 1964, she was married to Robert Cummins. They were married for 25 years before he preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her father, Gerald Akers, her mother Mabel (Akers) Franklin, her stepfather, Henry Franklin, and her grandparents.She is survived by three sisters, Irene Weldin of Las Vegas, NV, Betty Moore and husband, Darrell and Katie Kuster and husband Roland all of Council Bluffs; and many nieces and nephews including, Susan Snell and husband Patrick, Julie Kuster and Amy Brown and husband, Roy all of Council Bluffs, Steven Purscell and wife Nancy of Papillion, NE, Terry Weldin and wife of Scottsbluff, NE and Virginia Weldin Andersen and husband of Las Vegas, NV.Services for Marlene will be held Saturday morning, December 10, 2005, at 10:30A.M. at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, IA with Pastor Don Bates of the Open Bible Church of Council Bluffs officiating assisted by Lutheran minister Reverend Dan Stegen of Strawberry Point, IA who will have a recorded message. Visitation will be held Friday evening, December 9, from 6:00 to 8:00P.M.
