Obituary for Veronica E. Coughlin

Veronica E. Coughlin, 92, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2002, at Creighton Medical Center in Omaha.The daughter of Charles Joseph and Verna Margaret (Neary) Coughlin, Veronica was born August 25, 1910 south of Cumberland where she grew up and graduated from Cumberland High School. She attended Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa and taught school until she was employed by the War Department in Rock Island, Illinois. In 1942 she transferred to the Chicago Ordinance District. In 1954 she moved to California and resumed her teaching career. It was there that she finished her education and received a master's degree from California State University in Los Angeles. She retired and returned to Atlantic in 1977. Veronica was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic, CCW (Council of Catholic Women)and a former Catholic Daughter. She was also a member of the American Association of University women and the Nishna Hills Golf Club.Veronica is survived by one sister, Helen Morrison of Atlantic; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Virgil Coughlin, Patrick Coughlin, Thomas Coughlin and Robert Coughlin; and four sisters, Mary Morrison, Regina Clarke, Margaret Lewis and Geraldine Shields.Funeral InformationA memorial mass will be held for Veronica on Monday, October 7, 2002, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic, Iowa at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. Paul Mahowald, S. J. of the St. Timothy Reno Catholic Church south of Cumberland, Iowa officiating. Interment will be at 9:30 A.M. at the Atlantic Catholic Cemetery.
