Robert William Coughlin
Robert William Coughlin, 73, of Cumberland, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2001, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.The son of Charles Joseph and Verna Margret (Neary) Coughlin, Robert was born May 29, 1927 in rural Cumberland where he grew up and graduated from Cumberland High School. Robert served as Yeoman Third Class in the United States Navy during World War II. His marriage to Nancy Virginia Lovitt took place August 11, 1989 in Savanna, Missouri. Robert farmed his entire life in the Cumberland area. He was a member of St. Timothy Reno Catholic Church south of Cumberland, He was also a member of Lions Club, American Legion of Cumberland, Farmers Co-op Board, and a charter member of the Cumberland Saddle Club. Surviving are his wife, Virginia of Cumberland; two sisters, Veronica Coughlin and Helen Morrison, both of Atlantic; one sister-in-law, Ivy Coughlin of Denver, Colorado; one brother-in-law Lloyd Lewis of Audubon; stepchildren, Kent and Erna Murphy and Kyle, of Portland, Oregon, Kolleen Murphy of Atlantic, Karen Snow and her husband Charles of Omaha, Karolyn and Trevor Bates and Channing of Nashville, Tennessee, and Kimberly Murphy of Carroll; one grandson, E.J. Miller of Atlantic; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Virgil, Pat and Tom Coughlin; four sisters, Mary Morrison, Regina Clarke, Margret Lewis and Gary Shields; one sister-in-law, Arminta Coughlin; and three brothers-in-law, Perry Morrison, Ned Clarke and Bob Morrison.Funeral InformationA memorial mass for Robert was held Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at 10:30AM at St. Timothy's - Reno Catholic Church south of Cumberland, Iowa with Father Paul Mahowald officiating.Interment was held Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at 9:30AM with a military graveside service at the Atlantic Catholic Cemetery, Atlantic, Iowa.
