Connie Gebhardt

Connie Rae Gebhardt, 75, a resident of Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn and long-time resident of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.

Connie was born on January 12, 1950, in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Herschel Eldon and Barbara Ann (Paulson) Wall. Connie graduated from Griswold High School in the Class of 1968.

In 1969, she was blessed with son, Brian Todd and in 1975, her heart broke when she lost her son, Scott Euguene in infancy. On March 24, 1981, she married Rodger Leo Gebhardt at the United Church of Christ in Lewis, IA.

For many years she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant, and later at the Western Tavern for 10 years. Connie owned and operated C&C Diner in Lyman, Iowa, where she was known for her delicious homestyle cooking and her fried chicken.

Connie would do anything for her family and was a loving and protective mom and grandma. Her granddaughter, Ashlee’s favorite childhood memory was going to the diner and sneaking away to the kitchen to place her order personally with Grandma and then grabbing a stool to watch her.

She was given the gift to cook and was passionate about it; always looking for new recipes. In later years, she had two main loves one was playing games and coloring on her tablet and the other being a diehard Kansas City Chiefs fan, her eyes mainly on Patrick Mahomes. Connie loved to play games and cards, pinochle being her favorite. There wasn’t much that got by her with her quick wit and no-nonsense personality.

Connie is survived by her son, Brian (Sherry) Wall of Shelby; very special granddaughter, Ashlee Wall and fiancé, Ted Zacharias of Atlantic; sister, Patricia (Neil) Smith of Phoenix, AZ; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Rodger Leo Gebhardt; son, Scott Eugene in infancy; parents, Herschel and Barbara Wall; mother-in-law, Thelma (Fox) Gebhardt; beloved sister, Brenda Kay (Wall) Weston; her grandparents; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
