Clint Humbert, 74, of Griswold, IA, and formerly of Cumberland, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Cass Health in Atlantic, IA.
Clinton Franklin Humbert was born January 18, 1951, in Clay Center, KS, to Hollis Oliver and Marjorie Ann (Knox) Humbert. Clint grew up in Clifton, KS and Des Moines, IA. During Clint's early years he attended school at Clifton-Clyde grade school in Clifton, KS. After his family moved to Des Moines, IA, he attended Saydel High School. Clint graduated from Saydel in the Class of 1969. One memory he recounted often with his face beaming was about his performance in Saydel's class play, for which he got a standing ovation!
After graduation Clint worked at Overhead Door and then enrolled in an apprenticeship program to become a certified carpenter. He was a member of Carpenters Local #106 and United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners of America. This involved working beside journey persons on the job as well as attending regular classes to complete his training. Clint was employed by CECO, The Weitz Co., and Turner Construction Co. in Des Moines, IA. One of the well-known projects he worked on was the Principal Financial Building located at 801 Grand in Des Moines. Clint worked for Kiewit Construction Co. for five years. His last job with Kiewit before he retired was the new Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, NE, which hosts the NCAA College World Series.
During his early years working in Des Moines, Clint met and married his first wife, Cynthia Seibert in 1973. They were blessed with daughters, Andrea and Erin Humbert. They later divorced.
Clint was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, go camping, and ride his Triumph motorcycle. He enjoyed touring around in his little red Mazda Miata with the convertible top down. Clint regularly listened to Garrison Keillor or NPR radio and loved watching Jeopardy at home or while playing cards at Dusty's with the retired fellows. The past few years Clint looked forward to NASCAR races with Brant and the boys and betting on his favorite driver.
Clint loved to pheasant hunt. It wasn't a surprise that on a fateful day in October 1990, his friend invited him to the friend's parents farm on the season’s opening day. Also there to visit for the weekend at the friend’s cousins were Dawnelle and her son, Jeremy Bailiff. Clint was in for a surprise when he met Dawnelle. They both were excited to meet because it was just by chance! They married May 10, 1991, in Des Moines, IA. Morgan Humbert was born to Clint and Dawnelle in July 1992, and joined siblings Jeremy, Andrea, and Erin. Clint and Dawnelle lived most of their 34 years of marriage in Cumberland. They moved to Griswold in December 2024 after a fire destroyed their home.
Clint loved his family and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Dawnelle Humbert of Griswold; daughters, Andrea Humbert of Des Moines, Erin Jensen and Morgan Humbert both of Griswold; stepson, Jeremy Bailiff of Yutan, NE; sister, Denise (John) Spragg of Port St. Lucie, FL; sister-in-law, Kathleen (Brad) Foster of Davenport; brother-in-law, Jay Ewalt of Rockport, TX; 9 grandchildren, Kodi and Alex Jensen, Brynleigh Bonnesen, Roman and Royal Rodriguez, and Justin, McKenna, Jackson, and Maddox Bailiff; great-grandson, Cohen Bailiff; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Preceding Clint in death are his parents, Hollis and Marjorie Humbert; parents-in-law, Betty and Jack Gerlach; brother, Jerry Humbert; and brothers-in-law, Nick (Sally) Powell and Jerry Ewalt.
