Kim A. Clemons (Stein)

Kim (Stein) Clemons, 52, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Thursday, December 11, 2019, at her home.

The daughter of Raymond Henry and Roberta Jean (Clements) Stein, she was born November 21, 1967, in Harlan, Iowa. Kim attended the Head Start Program in Harlan, and recalled how much she enjoyed going to school and also at the end of the day being dropped off at Grandma Izzy’s house (Ray’s Mother). Ray’s parents only lived four blocks from them and they loved the shortcut to their house across the “rickety bridge”.

One of the more memorable stories while in Harlan involved the time when her brother Jeff accidently mistook the gear for the brake and ran Kim over with the family car. Fortunately, Kim came away from the accident with only minor bruises and scrapes and a great story to tell for the rest of her life.

In 1976, the family moved to Atlantic where Kim attended Atlantic Schools. She married Jerry Clemons and the couple moved to Cedar Rapids where she worked at a local nursing home. When she decided to move home her work transferred her to the old Atlantic Care Center where she worked for several years. While there she worked as a Certified Nurse’s Aide until a housekeeping position became available. She took great pride her career as a housekeeper and being a special part of caring for the elderly while also working at the Heritage House and Colonial Manor in Anita before retiring due to health reasons.

Kim was not shy about sharing her opinions or speaking up for herself; you never doubted where she stood on a certain topic or situation. She almost prided herself in her stubborn demeanor all the while grinning in the end with a comment of genuine care and concern.

She always enjoyed going out to eat, watching television (especially The Walton’s, Little House on the Prairie and In the Heat of the Night), and channel surfing every time a commercial came on. While she was not watching television she thoroughly enjoyed visiting and interacting with others.

Kim was especially fond of spending time with her very dear friend, Calvin Krause. Together they took rides to the farm, went to movies and most of all just enjoyed being together.

Kim is survived by her mother, Roberta Stein; brother, Jeff Stein; very special friend, Calvin Krause; step-mom, Marilyn Stein; and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Stein; sisters, Jackie and Lisa Stein; and grandparents, Robert and Bertha Clements and Michael and Isabelle Stein.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, December 16, 2019, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Atlantic. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the graveside service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Roland Funeral Home.
