Elizabeth Ann Casey
Elizabeth Ann Casey, 78, longtime resident of the Massena and Atlantic areas, passed away Monday, January 22, 2001, at the Colonial Manor in Anita, where she had been a resident.The daughter of Thomas M. and Mary K. Dwyer Casey, Elizabeth was born September 30, 1922, on a farm south of Massena. She attended rural school in Victoria Township and graduated from Massena High School in 1939. She began a career in education at the College of St. Mary in Omaha and graduated with an associate degree in education in 1941. She continued study in education during the summers and night classes until 1968. At that time she had earned the degree Bachelor of Science in Education. She began her professional career as the primary teacher in Heartwell, Nebraska in 1942, where she remained three years. She took the position as third-grade teacher in Valley, Nebraska three more years before returning to Iowa. Miss Casey taught in Massena, Wiota and Atlantic until retiring in 1987. She was a member of the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic, the Cass County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and the Nishna Valley Retired Teachers Association.She is survived by one brother, Thomas D. Casey and his wife, Donna, of Massena; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Casey of Atlantic and Melva Casey of Massena; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Rosemary McLaren and Kathleen Waters; two brothers, John T. Casey and Joseph V.
