Obituary for Ardis Carver

Ardis Adelaide (Hereim) Carver passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2003, at Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 97. The daughter of Martha (Danielson) and Andrew Hereim, she was born June 28, 1905 in Roland, Iowa. She graduated from Roland High School in 1923 after which she attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls where she received her teacher's certificate in primary education in 1925. She taught third and fourth grade in Collins, Iowa from 1925-29. Moving to Gilbert, she taught first grade in the Milford Consolidated School System from 1929-33.On June 14, 1933 Ardis married Harold Thomas Carver at the Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland, Iowa. They resided in Fort Dodge and Defiance before moving to Atlantic where Harold was manager of Metropolitan Farm Loans. In 1963 they moved to Carroll where Harold passed away in 1970. Ardis moved back to Atlantic in 1980 where she lived at Brookridge/Heritage house until her death.She was active in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Women and Church Women United serving as president of both those organizations. She was also Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. Ardis loved to entertain and was a master of baking Danich pastries and lefse.Surviving are her children and their spouses: Dick and Carol Carver of Glencoe, MN, Suzanne and Gene Leslie of Atlantic, and Alan and Linda Carver of Ames. In addition she has eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.Preceding her in death were a daughter at birth, Martha Ann; her husband, Harold; one sister, Margaret Gilreath; and a brother John Hereim.Funeral InformationVisitation is 7-8 pm on Wednesday, February 12, at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 13, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Reverend Homer Larsen of Cedar Falls will officiate. Friends and relatives are invited to the Fellowship Hall after the service for a time of luncheon and fellowship. The family has suggested that memorials be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church Stainglass Fund or Heritage House Good Samaritan Fund.
