Joye Carr, 75, of Anita, Iowa, died Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at Atlantic Specialty Care in Atlantic.
The daughter of Ellis Marion and Faye Larene (Patrick) Adamson, Joye Eleene was born September 12, 1943, in the Des Moines Methodist Hospital. Her early education was completed at Brooks Elementary School in Des Moines. In 1961, she graduated in the Top Ten of her class of 250 students at Des Moines Technical School. She then attended Drake University for a year, before going to work as an executive secretary for the American Chiropractic Association for three years. She left there to work for the Secretary of State of Iowa for a year and then Moeller and Moeller Law Firm for two years. On April 19, 1969, she was united in marriage to Clifford Eugene Carr, Sr. in Des Moines, Iowa. Three children were born to this union and her three step children were welcomed to the family. They made their home in the Anita area.
She and Cliff purchased, owned and operated the Anita Café and Greyhound Bus Stop for 16 years, before she retired. In addition, Joye was a homemaker, enjoyed crochet, tending her flower and vegetable gardens and caring for her horses, dogs and cats. Clifford and Joye ran the Avoca Music Festival for 10 years and she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 48 years. She loved life and lived it to the fullest!
Joye is survived and lovingly celebrated by her husband, Clifford Carr, Sr. of Anita; children, Clifford “Butch” Carr, Jr. of Avoca, Clinton E. Carr of Elm Creek, NE; three step-children, Theresa Jean Carr of Council Bluffs, IA, James Carr of Villisca, IA and Tracy (Bob) Jacobson of Fontanelle, IA; six grandchildren, Anthony (Wendy) Beck of Massena, IA, Donovan Carr of Ralston, NE, Hillary (Marc) Schlecht of Elm Creek, NE, Heidi Knake of Elm Creek, NE, Hannah Carr of Elm Creek, NE, Dylan Carr of Elm Creek, NE; five step-grandchildren, Kristin Miller of Council Bluffs, IA, Josh Miller of Glenwood, IA, Anthony Carr of Villisca, IA, Zach Jacobson of Greenfield, IA and Cody Jacobson of Fontanelle, IA; her mother, Faye L. Adamson of Ankeny, IA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert D. (Ruth) Carr of Brayton, IA, and Marlyce M. Carr of Dallas Center, IA; special friends, Nadine Bender of Casey, IA, and Billy Simon of Exira, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her dad, Ellis M. Adamson; mother- and father-in-law, Eugene Clifford and Deloris Alice Carr; and three brothers, Wayne, Donald and James Adamson.
Visitation with the family present will be held one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the church.
Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Anita. Burial will be held in the Evergreen Cemetery.
