Carol (Wolff) Knutsen

Carol Knutsen, 63, of Audubon, Iowa, passed away Monday, November 10, 2025, at her home surrounded by family.

Carol Ann was born on February 21, 1962, in Atlantic, Iowa, the daughter of Arnold George and Stella Katherine (Eggen) McCurdy. She grew up spending her days soaking up the sun with her brother, Esley and friends at the Audubon pool and helping her mom at the café. Lots of laughs and maybe some tears were had when playing with her siblings. One of their favorite things to do was to hold her by her arms and legs and swing her onto the bed.

Carol worked for Jensen Sanitation, an egg plant in Panora, and Garst Seed in Coon Rapids, in addition to helping her mom clean houses. She later received her Certified Nursing Assistant and Certified Medication Aide certification and had spent the last 34 years compassionately providing care to the residents of the Friendship Home. They were more than residents to Carol; she considered them family and took any chance she could to share her kids with them. Her dedication to her profession has been carried on by her daughters in the same line of work.

In October of 2007, the sparkle in her eyes caught the attention of Kevin Knutsen and his calm, simple ways and ability to make her feel safe caught her right back. The couple have loved each other deeply for the last 18 years and sealed that love with marriage on August 30, 2025. They looked forward to walks around the lake and going on trips. During their many travels together, Kevin would occasionally remark that he thought they were lost. With her characteristic grace and humor Carol would respond, “You can’t get lost if you don’t know where you were going.” This simple phrase reflected her joyful outlook on life and her belief that every journey – no matter where it leads – is meant to be embraced with laughter and love. Carol always said to Kevin, “Love you bunches! And where are you going!?! You forgot my kiss.”

Carol enjoyed bowling and had a team in league named, C&S (Carol & Stella) Enterprise with her daughters. She also enjoyed horseback riding, river floats, ziplining in Jamaica, and getting her Elvis fix at Graceland. Carol had a gift for writing poetry.

If you knew Carol, there was no doubt that she was always there for her family. They will forever cherish the blankets she lovingly made and the way she made Christmas magical, taking the lights and décor to the next level.

Her warmth, creativity, bright spirit, unwavering love and steady faith will live on in the hearts of those she touched. In true Carol fashion, she would remind us that this is not goodbye, but see you later.

She will be greatly missed by her husband, Kevin; children, Tina (Kevin) Betts, Tiffany (Ben) Conklin, Tonya (Jeremy) Munch, Travis Wolff, Taylor (Jake) Castaneda and Tanner (Chantal Moore) Knutsen; 30 grandchildren, Britney, Andrew, Carmen (Taylor), Danielle (Gatlinn), Stella, Kaylee, Bryce, Aliyah (Aiden), Tillman, Caradyn, Esley, Salvation, Sunshine, Quinten, Natalya, Jacobby, Ezekiel, Gabriel, Matinka, Brody, Blaire, Brennon, Aryanna, Owen, Lane, Landon, Syndal, Elliott, Easton and Everly; 12 great-grandchildren, Aurora, Takiah, Austin, Zoeley, Zayvian, Teylinn, Kaisen, Jiraiya, Adonies (arriving March 2026), Knox, Dawson, and Knova (born two days after Carol passed away); brothers, Leonard (Debi) McCurdy and Steve (Joyce) McCurdy; sister, Norma McCurdy; brother-in- law, Kenneth (Patricia) Knutsen; sisters-in-law, Lisa Schuman, Carol Logue, Brenda (Brad) Herrick, and Jolene (John) Klocek; her three boys, Jason, Keith and Nate; fur babies, Baby Girl and Odie; her work family; and many extended family and friends.
