JAMES EUGENE CAREY
James Eugene Carey, 75, of Atlantic, IA, passed away Sunday, September 8th, in Omaha, NE.
James was born in Atlantic, Iowa, on June 25, 1938, a son of the late Loretta Margaret Talty and Michael Francis Carey. He graduated from the Atlantic High School in 1956.
James served in the U.S. Army as a SSG. He worked as a land surveyor for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 42 years, retiring on June 30, 2000. His three greatest loves were his church, his work and his children.
He was a member of S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic. He was also a member of the Society of Land Surveyors of Iowa, the Atlantic Benevolent Patriotic Order of the Elks, Lodge No. 445 and the Cass County Genealogical Society.
James is survived by a daughter, Susan Diane (Jeffrey) Bates, of Papillion, NE;
three sons, Jon David (Valerie) Carey, of Lincoln, NE, Robert James (Terry) Carey of Atlantic, IA and Timothy Michael (Cheri) Carey, of Atlantic, IA. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Anthony Bates, Alexandra Bates, Kelsey (Luc) Stech, Emile Shostrum, Stephanie (Steven) Davidson, Chrissy (Kris) Bussey, Brecklyn Carey, Chaylei Carey, Trahyger Carey; and three great grandchildren, Kymberlee and Daniel Schroeder and Haysen Stech.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Robert L. Carey; and his grandson Keegan J. Carey.
