Obituary for
Marilyn Joyce Bucy (Spieker)
MARILYN BUCY
Marilyn Bucy, of age 57, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2012, in the Jennie Edmondson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Marilyn Joyce Bucy was born June 20, 1955, the daughter of Morris A. and Lucille (Eden) Spieker, in Des Moines, Iowa. She grew up in the area north of Massena, attending school at Cumberland-Massena and attended Des Moines Community College.
She lived according to her faith and was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. Being gifted with leadership qualities, she served as president of Atlantic Kiwanis Club's 1st chartered Aktion Club of the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center. She, being a strong leader, led her board and the club team for the good of children. They set precedence for continued distributions of gift baskets to area families. Marilyn, being especially enthused about baking, helped leave a legacy—as the club has remained active in fund raising for the needy through bake sales and silent auctions. Her hobbies especially included playing Bingo—which she got a kick out of taking part in.
Marilyn's family will remember her enjoyment of cooking and special love for children. Little ones were drawn to her—so it wasn't unusual to find her with children squeezed up next to her and piled on her lap. Her children and grandchildren were the loves of her life! She was ever involved in writing cards and letters and mailed her Christmas greetings out even in her final days. Just hours before her passing, she was able to rise above her comatose condition in order to respond to her grandson's phone call. Her words will linger in the family's hearts until Heaven, as she surprised even the nurses when she opened her eyes and spoke, in response, a final "I love you."
Among her survivors are her son Damon Bucy and wife Kodi of Glenvil, NE; her daughter Melanie Bucy of Maryville, MO; five grandchildren, Tanner League, Caden Emmic, Zara Emmic, Tucker Bucy and Haiden Bucy; her sister Marlene Miller and husband Dan of Anita; a brother Walter Spieker and wife Karen of Sioux Falls, SD; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers in infancy, David and Dale.
Her Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at First Lutheran Church at Wiota, Iowa. Atlantic pastors, Ken Davidson of Atlantic Zion Lutheran Church and Leon Hodges, Hospice Chaplain, will officiate. The committal service will be in First Lutheran Church Cemetery following the service. The family will meet with friends and relatives from 5:00 to 7:00pm at Roland Funeral Home on Friday evening December 14. There will be opportunity for paying respects during open visitation times—daily from 8:00 to 5:30, through Friday, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa.
