EVANGELINE "VAN&" (WHEATLEY) BRUNER Evangeline "Van&" Ermine (Wheatley) Bruner, age 88, lifelong resident of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2008 at her residence. Evangeline was born December 13, 1919 in Gates, Iowa to Harry and Myrtle (Parmley) Wheatley. She grew up in Atlantic and graduated with the Atlantic High Class of 1938. Van was united in marriage to John Bruner in 1941 in Maryville, Missouri. To this union two daughters were born, Karla and Barbara. Atlantic area folks will remember Van as a caring and personable clerk at Woolworths, Cook and Caslow Drug Store and Pamida. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic and belonged to Esther Circle. She enjoyed her family get-togethers, taking trips to the casinos, garage sales and laughing and telling jokes with her family and friends. She was a happy-go-lucky person with a contagious smile. Her daughters agree that she was a loving homemaker for her family and the dearest and sweetest mother daughters could ask for. She is survived by her daughters, Karla Bruner of Des Moines and Barbara Bruner of Atlantic; three grandchildren, Teri and Michaelle of Atlantic and Scot Johnston and wife Chong Son of South Korea; six great-grandchildren, Tyler and Trever of Des Moines, Deven of Adair, Logan, Justin and Drew of Atlantic; and one great-great-grandson Trenton John of Des Moines; sister-in-law Maxine Bruner of Atlantic; nephews and nieces, Karen Brown and husband Dennis of Cumberland, Judy Lett of Des Moines, Judy Weber and husband Phil of Greenfield, Delores Adams and husband Chuck of Maryland, Lyle Lett and wife Sherry of Des Moines, Dan Grover and wife Connie of Atlantic, Randy of Knoxville, Brenda Euken and husband Kent of Wiota, Roger and Marilyn Jensen of Seattle, Gary Nichols of Arizona and Royce Nichols of Audubon; and many friends. She will also be missed by her cat, "Cuddles&". She was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents, Myrtle and John Wheatley; her stepfather Truman Grover; her sisters and spouses, Eloise (Art) Lett, Suzie (Ralph) Nichols, Gertrude (Walter) Jensen and two sisters who died in infancy; half brothers Clifford Grover and John Wheatley; nieces Linda and Wanda Jensen of Seattle; and her nephew Steve Grover.Funeral InformationServices for Evangeline will be Tuesday, June 24, at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Gary DeGeest officiating. Interment will follow at the Atlantic Cemetery. There will be an open visitation and the family will meet with friends on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
