Burnice Brix

Burnice Marcella (Walters) Brix, long time resident of Atlantic, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2006. Burnice was born on February 25, 1918, to Merrill and Ruth (Allen) Walters in Clearfield, Iowa. She graduated from Creston High School in 1936, Creston Jr. College in 1938 and attended Drake University.Burnice taught school in Benton, Clearfield, Atlantic and Wiota, Iowa.She was a 50 year member of First United Presbyterian Church Ladies Aid and a 4-H Leader. Burnice married Ivan Walter Brix on September 10, 1944 in Creston, Iowa. The couple lives in Atlantic where they were blessed with two daughters.Burnice will be fondly remembered by those who knew her well. She enjoyed being with friends for lunch, coffee and cards. She loved traveling to Arizona and the A-frame cabin in Wyoming, after she retired from teaching 3rd grade at Lincoln Grade School in Atlantic. Burnice also loved to be with her children and grandchildren for all the celebrations, holidays and birthdays!Her survivors include her husband, Ivan Brix of Atlantic; two daughters, Marcia Brandt of Mount Vernon, Iowa, Sareta Gregory and her husband, James of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; two grandchildren, Will Brandt of Marion, Iowa, Jennifer Murphy and her husband, Nick of North Liberty, Iowa; two great grandchildren, Darian and Emma Brandt of Marion, Iowa.She was preceded in death by her parents, Merrill and Ruth Walters of Creston, Iowa.The funeral service is set for Saturday, July 22 at 2 P.M., at the Roland Funeral Home. The family will meet friends at a visitation Friday from 7–8 P.M. Pastor Don Seeger will officiate. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic.
