Nora G. Bretey, 59, of Atlantic, went to live with her LORD on Thursday, August 27, 2015, from her home.
Nora Grace was born on October 10, 1955, in Denison, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph Arnold and Juanita Ruth (Hahn) Bachmann. Following graduation she attended Drake University and received a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education.
Nora was united in marriage to Clayton Bretey on July 12, 1980, in Dow City, Iowa. The couple treasured time together on walks, watching movies, reading, investing time with family, and attending small group and Bible studies. She worked part-time with Kindred Connections/Wesley Life Home Health Care for 5 years, and then later volunteered her time at Heritage House.
Nora's life is characterized by her faith in and love for Jesus Christ. Because of this, Nora pursued faithful stewardship of all that God had given her. This was evident as she practiced natural family planning, non-traditional childbirth, breastfeeding, home schooling their 5 children through high school, eating healthy foods, recycling, economical shopping, applying financially conservative principles and generous giving, loyalty and faithfulness to her one and only husband of 35 years, giving time visiting and praying for others, etc.
Nora highly values the truth and authority of the Bible as God's inspired Word to us. Her favorite verse is: John 14:6, where Jesus said, "I Am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to (God) the Father, except through me (God the Son - Jesus Christ). Her prayer and prayer request is that people come to and deepen their relationship with Jesus, and that God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) will be glorified in the process. Her family takes great comfort in knowing that now Nora is "with a better person" (Jesus) in God, and free from the ovarian cancer.
Nora is survived by her husband, Clayton; children, Tasha (Jesse) Stimson of Olathe, KS, Jordan (Stephanie) Bretey and their son, Elijah of Heber City, UT, Devon Bretey of Atlantic, IA, Reuben (Lesley) Bretey of Olathe, KS, and Benjamin Bretey of Atlantic, IA; mother, Juanita Bachmann of Denison, IA; sisters, Janet (Jim Lukens) Bachmann, Marcia (Richard Meyer) Bachmann, Andrea (Richard) Kaitany, Sylvia (Doug Rohde) Bachmann; brothers, Tom (Gloria) Bachmann, Bruce (Nancy Sauerman) Bachmann, and Brian (Georgia Heald) Bachmann; several nieces and nephews; and several extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her dad, Ralph Bachmann.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at the Evangelical Free Church in Atlantic. A luncheon will be held immediately following the service.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at Roland Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to a cause that was close to Nora's heart at Samaritan's Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, North Carolina 28607.
