ETHEL "GABBY" EVELYN BRENEMAN


Ethel was born on the 23rd of December, 1916 in Slayton, Minnesota and passed away on September 16, 2012 at the Briarwood Care Center in Iowa City, Iowa.
She is the daughter of George A. Walker and Gladys Bollenbaugh and grew up in Boone, Iowa. Ethel was married to Paul E. Breneman on January 16, 1937 in Bethany, Missouri. In 1952, they moved to Atlantic, Iowa where Paul worked for the Iowa Highway Commission and Ethel at KJAN radio station. Following retirement, they resided in Pea Ridge, Arkansas.
Ethel was many things to her family and friends. She was a super cook; a lover of animals; a politician, at heart running once for Cass County Treasurer; a good softball player in Boone; and avid bowler; and most of all, a nice person willing to help others.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Leistad of North Liberty, Iowa and a son, Donald and wife, Annie of Iowa City, Iowa.
There will be open visitation at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, Tuesday and Wednesday, September 18 and 19, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with a visitation with the family Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 6:00 at the funeral home. On Thursday, September 20, there will be a graveside service at 11:00 am at the Atlantic Cemetery.
