Obituary for Al Brehmer

Al Brehmer of Arvada was born December 29, 1914 to Emil and Tena Bremher on there for outside of Atlantic, Iowa. The doctor who delivered Al did not record his birth, though, until December 30th, Al"s official birthday . He was the youngest of three children he had a sister Emilie, and a brother Emil, since deceased. At age 11 he had an emergency appendectomy. Due to complications from this procedure, he developed crippling rheumatoid arthritis. In his early years he farm in Iowa, but due to his arthritis, he was forced to move into it landing, where he very briefly studied bookkeeping. There he took a job at Cappels Hardware Store as their bookkeeper. He was Mr. Cappels first employee. That was the beginning of his love for numbers and his passion for accounting. Again, because of arthritis he had to move, leaving humid Iowa for the dry climate of Denver.Surely after that, his sense of adventure took into South America, where he analyzed the profitability of gold and diamond mining for an investor. While in British Guinea (Guyana), he met and married Joan Adamson in 1952 after a whirlwind courtship. They return to Denver where Al set up his accounting practice and had their only child, Linda (Kaufmann). Al successfully ran his accounting practice, specializing in taxes, until he was 88 years old. All of his client relationships blossomed in the friendships.In addition to accounting, he loved to travel to Alaska to photograph its grandeur and to enjoy the thrill of catching 100 pound halibuts. He shared his catch with all his friends upon his return to Denver. He was also famous for his raspberries, grown in his backyard, that he also shared with his many friends.Al is survived by his wife, Joan and his daughter, Linda (Tom) Kaufmann. He is the grandfather of Kristina, Coco, Melissa, Chase and Jordan Kaufmann; and the uncle of many nieces and nephews. Al is also survived the Lord Circle of friends that truly became part of his family.Al's committal will take place April 24 in Atlantic, Iowa.
