Eleanor Bock

ELEANOR SOPHIE (BREHMER) BOCK Eleanor S. Bock, 92, passed on at Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa on Friday, August 6, 2010. Eleanor was born south of Anita, Iowa, daughter of Martin and Emma (Pieken) Brehmer. The family moved to Atlantic in 1936. She was baptized at Peace Evangelical Church in Atlantic. Eleanor was married to Kenneth Bock in Bedford, Iowa in 1943. After his return home from serving four years in the U.S. Navy, the couple purchased a home at 505 Oak Street in Atlantic where they raised their sons. Eleanor lived in the family home after the death of her husband in 1982. She enjoyed her home for 52 years until she moved to Heritage House in 1998. She was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church, the church Golden Years group and the church choir. She worked for Swift and Company, Conklin"s Bakery and Claremar Fabrics until its closing. She was then employed for 14 years at Little Lambs Preschool at Zion Lutheran Church. She was a life member of Veteran of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, a member of Cass County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary; was a Red Cross Blood Donor; and a member of the Weekend Camping Club. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor. Her sons can vouch that she wasn"t afraid to spank them and added with grins, "She was especially on the look-out for new yard sticks at the annual county fairs.&" Her survivors include her two sons, Howard Bock and his wife Karen and David Bock; and two grandchildren, Stacey Bock and Cody Bock, all of Atlantic. Preceding her in death was her husband Kenneth; her parents; two brothers, Harold Brehmer and Melvin Brehmer; two sisters, Caroline Dorsey and Martha Dorsey; and her daughter-in-law, Peggy Bock (wife of David).Funeral InformationThere will be open visitation at Roland Funeral Home Sunday,August 8, from 12 to 5:00 P.M., and Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday August 9 through 11, from 8:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. At a later date, family will gather for a private grave-side service and committal of cremated remains to be held at Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic.
