Obituary for
Maxine F Blunk
Maxine F. Blunk, 96, of Atlantic, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Atlantic Specialty Care.
The daughter of Chris and Fern (Schmidt) Johnson was born August 2, 1920, in Atlantic. She attended school in Marne through the eighth grade. She then helped her parents raise her two younger brothers. On January 4, 1941, she was united in marriage to Wayne Blunk in Atlantic. Five children were born to this union. Maxine was a homemaker for many years raising their family until Wayne passed away on May 4, 1955, from a brain aneurysm. She then was employed as a housekeeper at the Whitney Hotel in Atlantic before working for the Heritage House as a housekeeper until she retired in 1995 at the age of 75. She enjoyed her home where she lived for over 75 years until she moved to the Atlantic Specialty Care in August of 2016.
Maxine was a member of Business and Professional Women for many years and an honorary member of Beta Sigma Phi. In her younger years, she enjoyed canning, especially corn and pickles. Maxine loved little dogs and would call them “her babies.” Her other “babies” were her dolls which she received as gifts. She enjoyed quilting and embroidering. She hand-stitched everything and made many quilts for her family. She loved to take trips anywhere and for several years traveled with a group to Branson where her favorite entertainer was Danny O'Donnell. Two of her favorite trips included the British Isles and Europe. She also cruised to Alaska, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Maxine was one who never said much but always enjoyed being around other people. She loved to go to many activities and events and always wanted to be the first one there and the last one to leave.
She is survived by her children: Mary Jo Blunk, Rosella Blunk, Earl (Carolynn) Blunk, David (Carol) Blunk, and Leita Blunk, all of Atlantic; her grandchildren: Melissa Blunk and Greg Blunk of Atlantic, Kathryn Dorsey of Corning, David Crum of Atlantic, and Carrie Kirchhoff of Lewis; 6 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren, her brother, Larry Johnson, of Lakeland, Florida; sisters-in-law, Helen Blunk of Atlantic and Marilyn Blunk of Kansas City, MO; her special friends, Colleen Sunderman and Jacque Wickey of Atlantic; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Blunk; her parents; her brother Clifford (Yvonne) Johnson; and her sister Darlene (Kenneth) Armstrong.
