Obituary for Leonard W. Blunk

LEONARD W. BLUNKLeonard William Blunk, 91, long time resident of Atlantic passed away at Exira Care Center on Saturday, February 28, 2009.Leonard William Blunk was born the son of Werner Blunk and Dora Bebensee Blunk August 18, 1917 at Grove City, near Atlantic. He was raised on a farm, attended rural school, Wiota High School and Des Moines trade school. On November 30, 1939 he married Maxcine A. Hedger. They farmed near Menlo, Iowa for five years and then moved to Cass County and farmed North of Atlantic until 1960 when the family moved to Atlantic where he started his own Insurance Agency, Blunk Insurance.He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, Kiwanis Club, Life Underwriters Association, Campground activities, Toastmasters and the Wiota Methodist Church. Leonard will be fondly remembered for his woodworking skills, painting, money-raising efforts for the organizations he cared so much about and his salesmanship. He always said, "Even If they say no, they are still talking to you." His survivors include his wife Maxcine Blunk of Exira Care Center in Exira, IA; his daughter Judy Williams and her husband Royce of Weatherford, TX; his son Roger Blunk and wife Kary of Russell, IA; seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren; a brother Norman Blunk and his wife Maxine of Atlantic, IA; three sisters-in-law, Marilyn Blunk of Gladstone, MO, Helen Blunk and Maxine Blunk (Wayne's widow) all of Atlantic, IA.Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Arnold Blunk, Wayne Blunk, Donald Blunk, Lawrence Blunk and Rodger Blunk, who died in infancy; a son-in-law Everett R. Bornholdt; a grandson Ronald Bornholdt and a great granddaughter Tricia Mae Finley. Funeral InformationHis Funeral Service will be at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, March 4 at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. Pastor Melodee Carstens of the Marne and Buck Creek United Methodist Churches will officiate. The committal service will take place in the Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic, Iowa.
