Glenn Binfield
GLENN R. BINFIELD
Glenn Binfield, 75, long time resident of Atlantic and previously of Nebraska, Colorado and Minnesota, passed away at Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa on Tuesday, January 31, 2012. Glenn was born the son of Sydney and Ruth (Anderson) Binfield on March 28, 1936, in Hastings, Nebraska, where he grew up on his parent's farm. He graduated with the Doniphan High School class of 1953; received his Bachelor's Degree with the Hastings College Class of 1959; Master's of Science at Kearney State College; an Educational Specialist Degree from Mankato State College; and attended seminary in Naperville, Illinois.
Glenn was married to Marie Leona Walcott in Shelton, Nebraska, May 20, 1961. Following their marriage, the couple taught in Wahoo. Glenn later taught in Colorado in Longmont, in Lyons, and in Grand Island, Nebraska for several years. He then worked as assistant superintendent at Blue Earth, Minnesota before coming to Atlantic, Iowa in 1972. His efforts were applauded while he served as business manager of the Atlantic School System for many years.
Glenn was an active member of First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic. He enjoyed his hobbies of gardening, fishing and walking. Memorable family vacations included trips to England, Branson, Kentucky and Colorado. His family and many friends will remember Glenn as generous, compassionate, hard-working, honest, and fair. It will be lovingly said of him that his life was a manifestation of the Book of James.
Glenn's survivors include his wife, Marie of Atlantic; his son, Daren Binfield of Morrison, CO; his daughter-in-law, Becky Karagan of Morrison, CO; his son, Kevin Binfield of Farmington, KY; his daughter-in-law, Ramona Smith of Farmington, KY; and his brother, Gayle Binfield of Hastings, NE.
He was preceded in passing by his parents and stepmother, Mildred Binfield Root.
Glenn's memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic. The family will meet with relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. There will be open visitation there from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. There will be a committal service at Shelton, Nebraska at a later date. Memorials may be designated to the Atlantic Community School Foundation.
