William “Bill” Larsen, 66, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Monday, September 15, 2025, at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
Bill grew up outside of Atlantic on a family farm as the youngest of seven children. His brothers and sisters helped raise him while his parents diligently worked to provide for their family. In his youth, he would show sheep and remain active in the local 4H club. He and his dad were known to spend days milling wood from farm trees, which was not an easy task. He helped in the garden, raised cows, sheep, chickens and many other things to help the family. He never shied away from a long day’s work. Bill would spend his entire life living in Cass County.
After graduating from high school in Atlantic and College at Iowa Western as a mechanic, he specialized in diesel engines while working at Williams garage and helping with the wrecker in the winter and then working for Henningsen’s asphalt crew until the later years of his life. The smell of asphalt and diesel was not unfamiliar to Bill, and he would not have had it any other way.
At home he was a baker and could cook most anything. But his homemade noodles and spaghetti pizza was beyond description. He was always cooking up something new or finding a new kitchen gadget to use. He loved fishing year-round. The only thing that could keep him away from the area fishing holes was watching cartoons and video games with “his boys” or QVC and HSN where one “can’t afford not to buy it”.
Bill would bring one child into this world, Tabitha, and an adopted son, Keith. He would raise and care for many, many others throughout his life. His grandsons were his pride and joy. He was a relentless giver who would always put others before himself, night or day, time did not matter. If you needed Bill, he’d be there. He was a man of strength who’s booming voice could often be heard for blocks. While he knew some of the hardest challenges of life, he looked positively at the world with a healthy dose of fun-loving humor.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Tabitha (Spenser) Sothman; son, Keith (Ty) Feltner; grandson’s, Keagen, Rylee and Finn (His Boys); sisters, Thela (Dave) Rubey, Peg (Eric) Hamper, Denise (Pat) Newberg, Sandy Aelleman; brothers, Gail (Donna) Larsen, Glen (Gloria) Larsen; and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ted and LaVon (Deskin) Larsen.
