Bev Simpson, 70, of Atlantic, Iowa, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Beverly Alice was born on April 5, 1955, in Atlantic, Iowa, the daughter of Eugene Franklin and Imo Jean (Carr) Herrick. She grew up in Atlantic with her sister, Judy and the two of them couldn’t be more of opposites, Bev liking girly things and Judy a tom boy. At an early age she learned the importance of faith with the family attending Church of God of Prophecy. Bev graduated from Atlantic High School in the Class of 1974, and went on to beauty school in Des Moines.
On September 3, 1977, she was united in marriage to Royce Rudy at the Assembly of God Church in Atlantic. The couple was blessed with two children, Kristi and Kyle. Together they raised their children and worked hard to provide them the things they needed and to support them in their various activities. Royce went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 30, 2016.
On June 2, 2018, she was united in marriage to Michael Simpson after being introduced by a mutual friend at church. They didn’t travel much, but when they did, they enjoyed heading south to the Branson and Eureka Springs area.
Bev worked as a retail clerk her entire career in addition to home health care and cleaning homes. This kind of work fit her perfectly as she loved working with and talking to people. She was a familiar face to many at KMART, Pamida, and Wal-Mart.
Bev’s whole heart was given to her unwavering faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her family. She was a member of New Life Church and enjoyed catching up with friends after the service. Bev loved getting together with family and going on trips: some more memorable than others. A few favorites were Adventureland, the Iowa State Fair (Did she go just for the hot beef’s?) and the Avoca Aquatic Center.
Down time was spent doing crosswords and word searches, coloring, and watching her favorite TV shows which included anything on the Hallmark channel, The Bachelor, Price Is Right and Wheel of Fortune. She was always up for shopping and rarely turned down a chance to go thrifting or make a trip to the mall. When it was BINGO night you didn’t dare stand (or be driving) in her way! She wasn’t going to miss it! She bled black and gold and purple and gold, GO HAWKS & GO VIKINGS!
Bev always put other’s before herself. Her caring and joyful spirit will be greatly missed by her husband, Michael Simpson of Atlantic; daughter, Kristi (Jason) Kroeger of Atlantic; son, Kyle (Ari Snyder) Rudy of LaVista, NE; two grandchildren, Haley (Josh) Smith of Atlantic and Skylar Kroeger of Ankeny; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Asher Smith; sister, Judy McClure; cat, Peanut; Mike’s siblings, Kelly Simpson, Shawn Simpson and Kathy Wendt; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Imo Jean Herrick; parents-in-law, Russell Sr. and Ruth Rudy; husband, Royce Rudy; and brother-in-law, Earl McClure.
Open visitation, with no family present, will be held from 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 12th at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic.
Visitation with the family present will begin at 9:30 a.m., Monday, October 13th at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Ben Winford of New Life Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later date.
