Laverna “Bonnie” (Holmes) Betz

Bonnie Betz, a longtime resident of Atlantic, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital at the age of 84 years.
Bonnie Betz was born August 19, 1928, in West Plains, Missouri to Earl and Esther Holmes. Bonnie's family moved to Shenandoah, Iowa, when she was 10 years old because her father operated a Dr. Pepper Bottling Company. On December 14, 1947, Bonnie married her high school sweetheart, JR, and they resided in Shenandoah until they moved to Newton, Iowa, where JR was meat market manager at Safeway. In 1962, JR took the same position in Atlantic, Iowa, where they continued to reside. Bonnie was a homemaker extraordinaire.
Mrs. Betz is survived by her husband, JR, and her sons, Dennis (Linda) Betz of Lees Summit, Missouri, and Randy (Chris) Betz, of Columbus, Nebraska, her sister Geri (Gus) Gillespie of Anchorage, Alaska, her sister in law Dwala of Council Bluffs, Iowa, 5 Grandchildren, Dustin (Zonna) Betz, Daniel (Jenny) Betz, Darren Betz, Brent Betz, Jessica Betz, and 5 Great grandchildren, Arianna, Amyah and Alonah Craig, and Aliyah and Mason Betz. Bonnie was preceded in death by her sister Jeanne Ford and her brother Samuel Holmes and her parents.
