Obituary for
Roger F. Berry
Roger Franklin Berry, 73, a local farmer, died in his home, Saturday, November 18, 2006, after a battle with cancer. Roger was the son of William Harry and Lola Belle Waller Berry. He was born on the family farm east of the Lewis Cemetery on February 10, 1933. He attended Lewis Consolidated School and graduated from Lewis High School in 1950. After graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force in 1952. On his return home in 1956 he worked selling milking machines and then worked for Karl Kay on the farm. His marriage to Marlys Moller took place on January 18, 1959 at the Presbyterian Church in Atlantic. They started farming on their own in 1960 on a farm near Elliott, and moved to their current farm near Lewis in 1966. They have two children Julie and James.Roger was very active in the community. He was an elder and a Sunday School teacher at the Lewis Church of Christ. He was active in Farm Bureau, including being the current Voting Delegate, and has held other offices. He was a founding member of the Cass County Pork Producers and the Cass County Corn and Soybean Growers. He has been co-chairman of the Cass County Republican Party, and was a Cass County Supervisor for a short time. His hobbies included puttering in the shop and putting the Berry family history into the computer, and he especially enjoyed being around his grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers-in-law Gerald Weirich and Harry Travis; and his sister-in-law Arlene Berry.He is survived by his wife Marlys; his daughter Julie Boston and her husband Dean from North Richland Hills, Texas; his son James and wife Dr. Elaine Berry of Lewis; grandchildren Derek and Tyler Boston and Kevin, Rhonda and Teresa Berry; a brother Richard from Paso Robles, California; sisters Wilma Weirich from Oakland, Betty Travis of Lewis, and Pat Berry of California; Marlys"s sister Arlene and husband Larry Wedemeyer of Anita; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Funeral InformationIN REMEMBRANCE OFRoger F.
