William "Bill" Bennett

William "Bill" H. Bennett, 95, of Kimballton, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa.

William Howard Bennett was born on April 17, 1919, in Ault, Colorado, the son of Benjamin R. and Nora (Coulter) Bennett. He attended school in Atlantic and graduated from Atlantic High School. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he was an electrician. Bill used his electrician training for many years serving communities in Arkansas and the Atlantic area.

On June 3, 2007, he married Delma Stuetelberg at the Wiota United Methodist Church. They were active in the Kimballton Heritage Club, where they attended several meetings and events. They even dressed up as Mr. and Mrs. Claus for a few years.

Bill enjoyed sharing jokes with family and friends. Delma and he traveled the area putting on rope-making demonstrations at several farm shows. A true passion of his was his horses. Bill went on numerous trail rides through the years, and had many horses, including his most recent horse, April. Bill also enjoyed his dog, Lady, who recently came to visit him at the nursing home.

Bill is survived by his wife, Delma; son, John "Jack" (Robin) Bennett of Columbia, SC; daughter, Cindy Jo Bennett of Gasville, AK; step-daughters, Nancy Nolte of Atlantic, IA, and Lori (Fay) Schroder of Atlantic, IA; and several grandchildren, including a special grandson, Curtis Comer.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jean Comer; son, Jim Bennett; wives, Alice and Vera Bennett; and step-son's, Allan and Marty Stuetelberg.

Committal services, with military honors by the Atlantic Color Guard, will be held at 2:00p.m., Friday, September 26, 2014, at Southlawn Memory Gardens in Atlantic.
