Obituary for Sherwood John Behrens

Sherwood John Behrens, age 66, of Atlantic passed away Friday, October 26, 2001, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital.The son of Julius Adolph and Della Darlene (Croghan) Behrens, Sherwood was born April 13, 1935 west of Treynor, Iowa. He attended country school near Macedonia and then moved with his family to their farm at Wales, Iowa. He graduated from Wales Lincoln High School in 1954. He was united in marriage to Hazel Ann Page on March 21, 1965 in the Wales Presbyterian Church. He played basketball and was very interested in sports. Sherwood attended Tarkio College for a short time and then drove livestock trucks to St. Joseph, Missouri and Omaha, Nebraska. He then spent many years working on farms and raising livestock with his sons for their 4-H projects. His number one hobby was football and entering football contests. Sherwood always enjoyed the outside farm work and gardening until 1999 when he had to quit because of his health. He had been a resident of the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center since May of 2000.He is survived by his wife Ann; two sons, John Behrens and wife Elsa and James Behrens and wife Angela all of Atlantic, Iowa; five grandchildren, Tyler, Nicholas, Kaitlin, Page and Alyssa Behrens; three brothers, Darrell Behrens and wife Lila of Villisca, Iowa, William Behrens and Delvin Behrens of Emerson, Iowa; two sisters, Julia Williams and husband Darwin of Villisca, Iowa and Darlene Proctor and husband Dale of Emerson, Iowa; his mother-in-law Genevieve Page of Mt. Ayr, Iowa; a brother-in-law James Page and wife Stella of Shenandoah, Iowa and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Sherwood was preceded in death by his parents, Julius Behrens in 1975 and Della Behrens in 1995; a brother Gilbert in infancy; a nephew David Lee Williams in 1977 and his father-in-law Albert Page in 1987.Funeral InformationFuneral services for Sherwood will be held Tuesday, October 30, 2001, at 10:30 AM at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa with Rev. Craig Palmer of the First United Presbyterian Church and Mike Harvey of Carson, Iowa officiating. Interment will be in the Whipple Cemetery northwest of Griswold, Iowa.
