Lillie E. Behrends
Lillie Behrends, 89, Lifelong resident of Wiota and Atlantic, Iowa, died Monday afternoon at the Heritage House in Atlantic. Lillie was born, February 13, 1915, the daughter of John and Anna Grote in Kimball, South Dakota. The family moved to the Wiota area in 1929. She attended Cass County country Schools. She was united in marriage to Ernest Behrends in January, 1937. The couple farmed in the Wiota area until moving into Wiota in 1971. Lillie moved to Atlantic in 1987, and was a long time employee of F.W. Woolworth for 25 years and Gambles Hardware store in Atlantic. She was an avid card player, crocheter and quilter. She dearly loved her family and friends and was a joy to all whom she served in her work places and at craft shows. Surviving, are one son, Marvin Behrends and his wife, Charlotte of Atlantic; four grandchildren, Todd Behrends and his wife, Vickie of Clive, Iowa, Alan Behrends and his wife, Janet of Omaha, Nebraska, Beth Davenport and her husband, Derek of Adair, Iowa and John Behrends and his wife, Tammy of Windsor Heights, Iowa; three great grandsons; one great granddaughter; two step great granddaughters and one step great great granddaughter; one brother, Robert Grote of Colorado Springs, Colorado, one sister, Darlene Hockenberry and her husband, Marvin of Wiota and several nieces and nephews.Lillie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ernest in 1972, two brothers, Glen and Howard Grote; three sisters, Gladys Christensen, Lena Gillim and Hazel Muzzy.Funeral InformationIN LOVING MEMORY OFLILLIE E.
