Florence A. Behnken
Florence Behnken, 95, a long time resident of the Wiota, Atlantic, Iowa area, died Wednesday evening, April 13, 2005 at the Adair Community Health Center in Adair, IA.Florence was born north of Atlantic on July 3, 1909, the daughter of George H. and Louise (Heiken) Hansen. She grew up and attended school in Wiota. Florence was married to John C. Behnken in Maryville Mo. The couple raised a son, Norman, while she enjoyed her career as a wife, mother and homemaker. Florence was a member of the First Lutheran Church south of Wiota. She took an active part in neighborhood card clubs and ladies aid at church.She is survived by her son, Norman Behnken of Atlantic, IA; a sister, Inez Sexton of Indianapolis, IN; three brothers, Russell Hansen of Wiota, IA, Ralph Hansen of Scottsdale, AZ and Roger Hansen of Elk Horn, IA.Florence was preceded in death by her father in 1969; her mother in 1983; her husband, John in 1975; a sister, Imogene Castel, in California, in 1979 and three brothers, Maurice Hansen who died in the service in France during WWII, Merlin Hansen of Anita, IA in 2004 and LeRoy Hansen of Atlantic IA in 2000.A Funeral Service has been set for Saturday, April 16 at 10:00 A.M. at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. Pastor Ted Weishaupt of the First Lutheran Church of Wiota will officiate.
