Obituary for Beulah B. Behnken

BEULAH B. BEHNKEN "GRANDMA B&" Beulah was born in Wiota, IA on June 26, 1908 to Elmer and Bertha (Whited) Keasey. She passed away at Cass County Memorial Hospital on June 8, 2008. Beulah graduated from Wiota High School in 1926, went to summer Teachers College and received a teacher"s certificate. Beulah taught six years in rural schools until she was united in marriage to Claus Behnken on May 19, 1932 in the Kountz Memorial Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska. They had three children Shirley, Larry and Kathy Jo and made their home in Wiota where they were self-employed. In 1947 the family moved to Anita and opened a Ford dealership where Beulah was secretary and bookkeeper. Claus and Beulah also owned and operated the Wiota Elevator for nearly 10 years. They were members of Anita Saddle Club and the Weekend Rough-N-Its camp club. They were members of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita. Beulah joined the ladies organizations and taught Sunday school part time. She volunteered at Crestwood Nursing Home. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, playing bridge and golf. In 1979 they retired and moved to Atlantic where they became members of Zion Lutheran Church. Beulah belonged to LWML and Golden Years Club. She enjoyed her time with children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. She will be remembered by many nieces and nephews, cousins, family members and friends. She is survived by a daughter Shirley Winston of Atlantic and a son Larry of Osage Beach, Missouri. Grandchildren, Wynn Winston of Atlantic, Jeff and Sharon Winston of Atlantic, Julie and husband Richard Messer of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Cash Behnken of Saratoga, Wyoming, Dana and husband Kevin Parkison of Dexter, Iowa and Lori Jenkins of Menlo, Iowa; great grandchildren, Jared and wife Lorelei Winston of Pflugerville, Texas, Jeanna and husband Craig Griffin and children, Carter and Kira of Atlantic, Justin and wife Christy Winston and son Jackson of Lewis, Michael Winston of Atlantic, Nathan Messer and Cara Messer of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Leta Behnken of Saratoga, Wyoming, Lee and husband Andy Dwyer of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Lindsy Parkison of Redfield, Iowa and Shawn Behnken of Des Moines, Iowa.Funeral InformationHer funeral service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic at 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday, June 11.
