Obituary for Burdette Baxter

Burdette Baxter, 94, of Atlantic, died Friday, September 7, 2018, at Allen Place in Atlantic.
George Burdette Baxter was born on July 10, 1924, at home in Brighton Township, Iowa, the son of George F. and Agnes D. (Guttenfelder) Baxter. As a child he worked alongside his dad on the family farm. He graduated from Atlantic High School in 1941. Following high school Burdette remained in the area until moving to Omaha in 1950. While there Burdette worked as a Route Salesman for Continental Bread Company/Wonder Bread for 28 years.
On August 23, 1985, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Crane-Baxter in Atlantic, Iowa, where he has lived since. Due to working long hours, it was hard for him to develop any hobbies, but there were a few things he made an important part of his life. He looked forward to spending time at his cabin on Hanson Lake, near Omaha, boating and taking in the sunshine. He loved Big Band Music and was a regular at community dances in Minden. For the past five years he has made Allen Place his home; enjoying the company of others and making many new friends. In recent years, he shared his joys in life which included dance, spending time at the casino, and travel with Violet Kardell.
Burdette is survived by his children, Shiella (Mike) McKernan, Debra (Jamie Fogerty) Baxter, and Terry (Deborah Nealon) Baxter; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and close friend, Violet Kardell.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Crane-Baxter; son, Rob Baxter; parents, George and Agnes Baxter; and sister, Ilogene “Jean” Bartley-Donahue.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service starting at 9:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church.
Funeral services will be Monday, September 10, 2018 at 10:30 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, with Pastor Ken Davidson officiating. Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
